K9 DEVELOPMENTAL SCIENCE DEGREE EDUCATION PROGRAMS

ASCT Division of Education

Registration for 2007.2008 is now closed. Applications will be accepted for 2008/2009 beginning June 1, 2008.

COLLEGIATE COLLEGE: MEETING STATE DCJS, and P.O.S.T. STANDARDS

OFFERING Baccalaureate of Science and Master of Science Degrees

Over the past several years, ASCT has carefully developed an education division.

This division is responsible for operations for our degree programs. Meeting state law enforcement training requirements and U.S. Department of Education structure, the program offers an undergraduate degree in K9 developmental science and a graduate degree for those wishing to advance their education, business, and resume.

As with any credible, college program, general education requirements are required for the degree and are balanced with a heavy concentration of K9 core courses that provide a tremendously technical and expansive education for students.

ASCT provides the degree programs in conjunction with or separate of our organizational ranks for certification. In other words, the student is not required to be ASCT certified in any realm in order to achieve the degree requirements and graduate. However, for those who wish to follow the ASCT certification rank system, the degree program is well suited for that advancement.

COST:

The most advantageous benefit of the Division of Education is that the degree programs are established to offer higher educational levels to ALL students without the heavy costs associated with many colleges. The average tuition / books costs for undergraduate students who enter as freshmen with no transfer credits and graduate with 120 credits is between $5000 - $6000. However, because we do accept transferable credits from both accredited colleges and police justice academies, many students find their financial requirements drop considerably. Furthermore, a way we keep student costs down is by having the students take general education courses at local community colleges, which have reasonable tuition rates. Some students also take CLEP tests in proficiency and qualify for credits without having to take the general education classes and pay the tuition.

The average, graduate level student, tuition ranges from $3000 - $4000.

TIME:

Quality education takes time. As with all colleges and universities, the ASCT degree programs take time, study and effort to complete. Graduation is earned. And just as with all higher-level universities, ASCT allows the student to complete their degree in most any time frame. Thus, whether the student takes three years, four years, or five years or longer, to complete the program - the standards are the same. Once a student takes the required courses and earns 120 credit hours, he or she graduates with a B.S. in K9 Developmental Science. The Masters program is reflectively the same. Once a student earns 60 credit hours of graduate level courses, he or she is awarded the Masters of Science degree.

EDUCATION FOR A LIFETIME

The ASCT Division of Education Degree Award is an accredited college degree. This means that the education fit’s the college standards required for degree. This is important because it allows the student to transfer most college credits to other colleges and universities. College credit is valuable and never diminishes. It is always there for the student whenever the student needs it.

TRAIN THE TRAINER

The ASCT K9 Developmental Science Degree Program is not to be confused with a TRAIN THE TRAINER program. The ASCT college program is a college of higher learning and is developed, instructed, and awarded as such. The degrees are real and valid.

In fact, the so-called TRAIN THE TRAINER programs, offered by many dog trainers, provide a mere sprinkle of education when compared to a legitimate college education. And whereas these TRAINERS are charging many thousands of dollars for their limited training, the programs leave little room for students to ever use the information outside of the K9 world let alone be capable of transferring credit to a campus university or other form of higher learning. TRAIN THE TRAINERS programs are developed for one thing…making money for the teacher.

The ASCT degree programs are designed for affordable, quality, education.

TRANSCRIPTS

Upon the completion of each credited class, ASCT Division of Education sends the student a copy of updated, graded transcripts, which reflect precisely where the student is in his or her education journey. The transcripts are easy to read and very informative.

Upon graduation, students are awarded their complete transcripts. Complete transcripts are different from graded transcripts in that the complete transcripts are official, notarized, certified copies of the complete education accomplishments of the student.

Transcripts are officially available to any current or former student for a small processing fee.

DEGREE CERTIFICATE

The appearance of the awarded degree is equivocal to that of the major universities across the nation. Our degrees are custom made and printed and are issued to the students in an extremely nice cover display.

We want to welcome you to our information site regarding the educational programs offered by ASCT.

However, before you begin with your research of this excellent program, we feel it is important to offer you some very specific guidance information to make your decision stronger.

Please read carefully...

The ASCT degree program has been designed primarily for law enforcement officers and civilian K9 trainers. Those unfamiliar with law enforcement or having no K9 experience at all - will find the program difficult to master. ASCT does not recommend this program for freshmen, directly out of high school. Instead, we recommend those freshmen students attend an on-campus program at a major university where they can major in an academic science (chemistry, pre-med, physics, engineering). Law enforcement officers with some college credit and experience in the K9 field will best benefit from the ASCT degree program.

Unless the student plans to remain active within law enforcement and/or the K9 developmental practice, he or she can not expect the K9 developmental science program to assist them in a capacity that, maybe - Chemistry or Accounting - would.

The degree program is not an easy achievement. In fact, it is classified as a science. Therefore, as with all sciences, a student should expect numerous study hours, lab reports, and a cerebral level of difficulty.

The ASCT degree program typically takes between five - seven years to complete. The time depends completely upon the student and the availability of classes. Most hard working students can obtain the degree within four solid years.

Those students seriously interested in pursuing the K9 developmental science degree are encouraged to carefully review all of the information listed on the ASCT Website and then contact the educational division only after deciding if the program will be beneficial.

Always weigh education programs carefully before making a decision. Though the degree program and classes offered through ASCT are extremely educational and valid for credit, not all core courses or electives may be transferable to other institutions. This is the same with any technical class upon entering a different field of study. General Education requirements will always transfer to collegiate institutions.
